Když na skalnatém ostrohu vysoko nad údolím řeky Svratky, budovali strážní hrad, vzbuzovalo to úžas. Sklepení vysekali do kamene, stěny hradu jsou spojené se skálou, takže se zdá jako by hrad do skalního masivu vrůstal. Poutník, který se vracel ze Svaté země a cestou už viděl ledacos, nevěřil, že se stavitelům podaří takový hrad dobudovat. To se spíš jeho suchá poutnická hůl zazelená... Hůl se skutečně zazelenala a vyrostl z ní tis. Hrad Perštýn stojí už staletí a stále vzbuzuje obdiv. Jeho obyvatelé po staletí věřili na spojení mezi hradem a životem stromu a v tom je podporovaly i záhadné souvislosti: u tisu se ulomil jeden z vrcholů - a na hradě se z nenadání propadla klenba. A nejen to - tis předpovídal i smrt v rodině majitelů hradu, významného moravsého rodu Pernštejnů.

When they started to build a castle on the rocky headland, high above the river Svratka, it caused amazement. The cellars were cut into the stone and the walls of the castle seemed to be growing out of this solid rock. A pilgrim, returning from the Holy land, who had seen many things, could not believe that this castle would ever be completed. More probably his dry pilgrim´s rod would start to sprout... And this is what actually happened and a yew-tree started to grow from it. However, the castle Pernštejn has been standing here for centuries and is still being admired. The people who lived in it were always convinced that the castle is connected with the life of the tree, which was confirmed by mysterious events: the top of the yew-tree broke and at the same time the vaulted ceiling fall down. And not only that - the tree also predicted any death in the family of the castle owners, the significant Moravian Perštýn family.
